The writer of a communication in a recent issue may rest assured that Christian Science is not substituting a sense of satisfaction in physical health for higher aspirations. The fact that so many "well-meaning Christian people" are adopting Christian Science is strongly indicative that the standards of this religion are at least as high as others.

A large proportion of Christian Scientists, including those who turned to it with no other conscious desire than to be healed of disease, will testify that the relief they have found from physical ills has been the least of the benefits. As for selfishness, if a desire to possess a clean mind and to think pure and good thoughts be selfish, mankind needs more of it.

Christian Science practitioners who refrain from other pursuits and devote all their time to their patients, are not unreasonable in looking to their practice for a livelihood. Help is not denied to any who cannot afford to pay. The notable growth of Christian Science is due to the fact that it is accomplishing that which it claims to be able to accomplish. It is meeting the test of application
