Among the Churches

Current Notes

Rock Island, Ill.—Negotiations were closed late this afternoon [May 19] whereby the Christian Science church acquired the large plot of ground located at the corner of Twenty-second street and Seventh avenue. The lot has a frontage of three hundred and thirty-four and a half feet on Twenty-second street and one hundred and fifty feet on Seventh avenue. The deal involved fourteen thousand five hundred dollars. The house that now stands on the ground will be removed immediately, and plans and specifications will be drawn up for the new church, which will cost approximately sixty thousand dollars. The Christian Science church located on Twenty-third street between Eighth and Ninth avenues has proved too small for the present congregation, and for some time the directors have been seriously considering the purchase of another site for a new church. This was the first Christian Science church erected in the state of Illionis, and was built in 1896. Since that date the congregation has steadily grown, until the present quarters were found to be entirely too small.—The Rock Island Union.

Warren, Ohio.—Through negotiations just closed, First Church of Christ, Scientist, has secured possession of a property at the corner of High and Vine streets. This property faces one hundred feet on High street and is one hundred and forty feet deep on Vine street, and is an ideal location. The growth of this church has been such that larger quarters are in demand, and to the end of furnishing these as soon as possible, the committee is now at work.
