It is nearly five years since I first heard of Christian Science
It is nearly five years since I first heard of Christian Science. For some years prior to this I had been gradually becoming more ill, until I was weary of trying to gain strength enough to do my work in the home. I was bitterly disappointed at not being able to look after my husband and children in the way I desired. After asking the physician if I would ever be strong again, he told me I would never be able to work much, but with great care I would live a long time. Being utterly wretched, I started to pray very earnestly that I might be taken out of this world, and I could not understand why such earnest prayers were not answered.
At this time I was asked if I would like to read the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I accepted the loan of it, and I shall always have a vivid recollection of the comfort gained during the reading of the chapter on Prayer. After reading the book carefully for four evenings, I resolved to rely only on God, and to prove whether or not what I had read was true. The result was to me most wonderful. I was suddenly and absolutely healed of all my ills, some of which were an abnormal condition of one kidney, internal trouble from the birth of the last child, severe headaches which lasted for days, inability to retain food, and sleeplessness. I have never been in bed for one day through any kind of sickness since, although previously I was laid up most of the time. Now I am doing all my own work, and am getting stronger every day. I have had the pleasure several times of hearing people remark upon the great amount of work I can get through.
My one desire is to prove my thankfulness to God for all these blessings by striving to have more of that Mind in me, "which was also in Christ Jesus."
