Among the Churches

Current Notes

Portland, Ore. —Second Church of Christ, Scientist, which has been holding services for several years in the Woodmen Hall, East Sixth and Alder streets, has recently begun the construction of a new edifice at the northwest corner of East Sixth street and Holladay avenue. This is the fourth church edifice to be erected by the Christian Science denomination in Portland. First Church completed its building at Nineteenth and Everett streets in 1911. Third Church built at East Twelfth and Salmon streets a year ago, and Fourth Church opened its new building at Emerson street and Vancouver avenue the early part of this year. The lot upon which the new church is being built is 100 by 100 feet. The Sunday school room has a capacity of four hundred and fifty, while the auditorium will seat one thousand persons. The cost of the building complete will be approximately forty thousand dollars.—

Milwaukee, Wis.—With hundreds turned away, the opening services of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Highland boulevard and Twenty-seventh street, were held on Sunday morning [June 7]. The dedication exercises will not be held until later in the year. With a seating capacity of two thousand people, the church is considered by many to be one of the best examples of church architecture in Milwaukee. The building was erected at a cost of one hundred and twenty thousand dollars. Work was started on it last July.
