The critics might be able to tell us whether God made evil and sickness, since according to John, God made every thing that was made, "and without him was not any thing made that was made;" and whether it would be right to call them good, seeing that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Also, they might have some satisfying theory which would make plain the reason for the existence of matter in face of the fact that Jesus said, "That which is born of the Spirit is spirit." I have read the Christian Science text-book and argued with many Christian Scientists, and have found that in Christian Science, Truth and reality are synonymous terms, which signify that which is eternal and unalterable; so that when Christian Scientists say that sin and disease are unreal, they have a clear understanding that if they were real, nothing could change or destroy them.
