No one can deny that for everything which exists, including both man and the universe, there is a cause or creator. This cause, which is the source of all present existence, must have been the cause of all existence in the past, and therefore must be eternal. That which is eternal must be good, for it is evident that evil is self-destructive; so the one great cause or creator is good, and that which causes or creates must be power, and palpably such a power could only operate as intelligence or Mind.

Jesus defined this cause as Spirit; John said that "God is love." Summing up, we conclude that this cause or creator which is Mind, Spirit, or Love, and which is wholly good, which must be eternal, could not be less than infinite, perfect, immutable, immortal. It is generally agreed that like produces like. A cause which is good, must have a like effect. A creator who is Spirit, must have a spiritual creation. We read in Genesis, that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Also, that "God created man in his own image," so that man must be an expression of Mind, hence spiritual, eternal, immortal.

Recognizing the foregoing self-evident truths, we can see what Paul meant when he said, "For in him [Mind] we live, and move, and have our being." Man's life consists of spiritual consciousness; "to be spiritually minded is life." Jesus showed that life is mental or spiritual when he said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God."
