Words cannot express my gratitude for what Christian Science...
Words cannot express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and for mine, and is doing every day. As we are now placed quite a distance from other Scientists, we are greatly benefited by the Christian Science periodicals, especially the Sentinel and Journal, so I feel more and more that it is my duty to give a message for Truth.
Shortly after becoming interested in Christian Science in the summer of 1902, I had a wonderful proof of the power of God through the understanding of this teaching. We were at that time living in Schenectady, N. Y., in an upper flat of a two-story house, when my oldest boy, then a little over three years old, fell from the piazza to the flagstone on the ground. As he must have climbed up on the railing, he fell a considerable distance. The lady down-stairs called to me that the boy had fallen, and I well remember the awful fear that took possession of me. When I reached him, I found him unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. Even then my only thought was, if I could only get a Christian Science practitioner to treat him, God would surely help me. I immediately sent for a practitioner, and in about twenty minutes she arrived. In the mean while I carried the boy up-stairs and laid him on the bed, with his clothes on, he being still unconscious. I was reading from Science and Health until the practitioner came, and after that she worked steadily for four hours, declaring the truth, before the boy became conscious. He then got up from the bed himself, and asked for some water. After he had received it, I undressed him and put him to bed, and he slept peacefully all through the night; but when he awoke in the morning, he wanted to go out to play. He was quite well, and on examination there was not a mark of any kind on his body save a scratch on his cheek. The fall did not result in any ill effects whatever, and he is now a big, strong boy.
My mother had been afflicted with asthma for fifteen years and had been pronounced incurable by some prominent medical doctors in Helsingborg, Sweden; she had also had medical attendance from some doctors in Schenectady, N. Y., without any permanent help; but she was entirely healed in six weeks' treatment by the same Christian Science practitioner who attended the boy. This was ten years ago, and she has had no return of the sickness since. She is now seventy-one years old, is remarkably active for her age, and is a thorough believer in Christian Science.
