With the hope that some one who is coming into Christian Science...
With the hope that some one who is coming into Christian Science in the midst of seeming opposition may be encouraged by my experience, I offer the following testimony. In 1908 I began to fail in health, so I went to our family physician for help. He treated me about a year for a goiter, which he stated caused heart trouble and nervousness, and also for rheumatism from which I had been suffering for a number of years. I gradually grew worse, however, and at Christmas was confined to my bed with the goiter, rheumatism in every joint, my legs having grown so crooked that they could not be straightened out, and a growth in the intestines. The physician claimed I had tubercular disease. I became so low that I could not speak above a whisper, and had to be handled like a child. I could take only some liquid through a tube, and not even that without great difficulty. My husband then called the physician once more and asked if anything could be done for the growth other than an operation; but he said "no," and added that an operation could not be performed, as I was too weak.
This was in April. Then a neighbor came and told us about Christian Science, of which we had never heard; so we at once sent for a practitioner from Peoria, who took up the case and worked faithfully. After my first treatment the pain all disappeared and I had a night of refreshing sleep, which I had not known for a long time. The next morning I was helped out of bed, and have not been again confined to it, nor have I or my family taken any medicine since that time. All the trouble gradually disappeared, and I am now in good health and flesh, with my limbs again straight.
I am truly grateful to God for Christian Science, and for knowing that there is a way to be cured of all suffering.
