In a recent issue an article was printed under the heading of "The Little Talk," in which the writer seems to imply that Christian Science and imagination are one and the same thing. Webster defines imagination as "a fanciful or vain notion." In the same dictionary is found this definition of Christian Science: "A system of healing disease of mind and body which teaches that all cause and effect is mental, and that sin, sickness, and death will be destroyed by a full understanding of the divine Principle of Jesus' teaching and healing. The system was founded by Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, of Concord, N. H., in 1866, and bases its teaching on the Scriptures, as understood by its adherents."

Christian Scientists do not claim that they have yet attained to a full understanding of Jesus' teachings, nor do they pretend that in their present state of consciousness they do not need food, raiment, and shelter from the cold. In Science and Health we read: "God requires perfection, but not until the battle between Spirit and flesh is fought and the victory won. To stop eating, drinking, or being clothed materially before the spiritual facts of existence are gained step by step, is not legitimate. When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path" (p. 254). The Bible states that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble;" also that "Power belongeth unto God."

We have learned, through the study of Christian Science, that this truth is practical, and that the understanding and application of it can save us from the ill effects of heat or cold or any untoward circumstance or condition. The statement from your article that "the human mind alone cannot overcome" these untoward conditions, we heartily agree with; and the Christian Scientist is endeavoring to rely entirely upon the divine Mind for his help and protection from every ill, in accordance with the Bible injunction, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."
