Six months ago one of my fingers became sore, and finding myself greatly troubled, I went to a clinic, where the ailment became aggravated despite medical treatment. I suffered much pain, and in about ten days the physician informed me that two of the joints of the finger would have to be amputated, as the diseased condition might otherwise extend to the hand; and lest this should occur, I consented to the operation. Subsequently, incisions were made in the remaining joint, without remedying the trouble; on the contrary, the physician now told me that the hand was becoming affected. In my despair I saw that my only hope of obtaining help rested with God, for with men it was impossible.
It was at this time of great need that my attention was called to Christian Science, and treatment was given me on the evening of the same day by a kind practitioner. During the healing, which began immediately, the trouble yielded in the inverted order of its coming. The fearful, timid mental attitude which had always seemed part of me, and the dreadful recollections of the clinic, which caused me to yield to discouragement on the return of the pain off and on, were the reasons for the complete healing being rather protracted. The good practitioner had to be very patient with me, but after several weeks had elapsed, complete healing was realized, and I am now able to attend to my duties, which also include heavy work. I feel that I cannot be too grateful to God for having been led to Christian Science, and I also wish to give sincere thanks for the faithful help which I have received. It will be my endeavor to advance daily in the understanding of Truth.—Frau Marie Runge, Breslau, Germany.
