About three and a half years ago I became interested in Christian Science through the help received from a practitioner, both through letters and conversation. In six months' time I was healed of the liquor habit. Through the study of the literature, I became possessed of the desire to do my best at all times. I had never had such a desire before, and I became more unselfish in my thoughts, more willing to forgive and bear with my neighbor, and I made a strong effort to clean up my life and my conversation, having formerly believed that in order to be forceful I must use profane language. These things were, however, utterly swept away. I have had no desire whatever for liquor and its associations since that time, but on the contrary have had to watch to keep from being disgusted at the sight of others using it.
I have tried, not by proselyting, but by letting my light shine, to show others the path which I am following. I was never given to worry, but formerly thought of myself, not of others. I have been able, I feel, to do much good to my friends and acquaintances by letting them see that I am happy and by making them understand that I would do them only good. My friends in my former life marveled at the way in which I had changed,—they could not but believe; at the same time they did not understand it, and waited to see the effects, which they have found to be permanent. They all knew of my habits before, and were impressed with the abrupt change after I took up Christian Science.
Three years ago I was married, and have grown happier each day in the strength gained through Christian Science and through acquaintance with Scientists, and have been able to a very great extent to keep the atmosphere about me clean.
