For over nine years my every need has been met through a practical knowledge of God's presence and power as explained in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I was led to investigate this truth, though not in search of physical healing, but rather because I felt a growing need of something higher and more substantial than material sense can perceive. I had long since drifted away from the teaching of my church, for much of it seemed contradictory and unreasonable. My higher sense of justice could not accept a religion whose God permits sin and sends sickness and suffering upon His children. In this condition of doubt and unbelief I was, however, neither satisfied nor happy. I felt that there must be a true side to everything, if I only knew how to find it, and again I began to look into religion. But the mystery of life seemed to deepen as I searched through many isms, which at most could only give me the hope of a future and far-off heaven; and this did not satisfy my present need or solve for me a single problem.

While in this doubtful and inharmonious mental condition, Christian Science was presented to me, and on attending a Wednesday evening meeting for the first time in The Mother Church, I was so impressed with the testimonies given, that I felt a great desire to know more about Christian Science. I soon procured the text-book and began an earnest perusal of its contents. The reading was slow, owing to my limited understanding of English. I would often stop at the end of a sentence and read it again and again, earnestly trying to comprehend its meaning ; then its marvelous light would break upon me. I shall never forget this experience, and to express it I must use Mrs. Eddy's words in "Retrospection and Introspection" (p. 23) : "Soulless famine had fled. . . . Being was beautiful, its substance, cause, and currents were God and His idea. I had touched the hem of Christian Science."

The reading throughout Science and Health was a continuous revelation, and I came to have a new concept of God and His creation. It revealed God as Principle, hence the direct cause of all right thought and action. To learn that He is the one intelligence, the one Mind, and to prove this by demonstration, has been the greatest blessing of my life. While reading the chapter on Science of Being, the tobacco habit left me. This proved to me Truth's power, as I had tried hard to overcome this habit through will-power and had failed. I have also been healed of catarrh, for which I had tried many remedies without avail. A sensitiveness of the throat has been healed, and minor ills, such as colds, have been quickly met and overcome. As God is our eternal parent, so is He also the great provider, the giver of all good, the source of all supply, and of this I have had many convincing proofs.
