I have long had a desire to express my gratitude to God,...
I have long had a desire to express my gratitude to God, good, for the wonderful blessings that have come to me and mine through the study of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. While I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing for myself, I have found that and much more of peace and happiness than I ever dreamed possible, even "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." Had I seen nothing more of the healing of Christian Science than I have seen in our own family, I could have no doubt as to the efficacy of Truth to heal all our diseases and to meet the much greater need of mankind for mental healing, or spiritual understanding.
During the past four years we have experienced in our own family the healing of stomach, liver, and bowel trouble, insanity, tumor, asthma, partial deafness; overcoming of the liquor and tobacco habits, etc., also of the results of serious accidents, besides wonderful changes which were wrought in dispositions,—all through the understanding of Truth as taught us by Mrs. Eddy. I am grateful for even a very limited understanding of God as Love, of God as Life, harmonious and deathless; and of God as Truth, the knowing of which makes men free. I am indeed grateful for the steps by which I was led to accept this wonderful teaching for myself, and that I have been enabled, by recognizing man as the reflection of divine intelligence, to demonstrate in part the power of Truth for myself and others.
I am grateful for a faint realization of the unreality of material selfhood, and the necessity of overcoming self-love, self-will, self-pity, self-condemnation, self-justification, pride, dishonesty, criticism, hypocrisy, hatred, envy, and the myriad forms of evil which clamor for recognition. I have learned that man, made in God's image and likeness, is the only man there is, the reflection of divine Mind, and he has no material selfhood. I am grateful for the Sentinel, Journal, Quarterly, and Monitor; also for class instruction, which means much to loyal Christian Science students.
