One has so much to be grateful for in Christian Science...
One has so much to be grateful for in Christian Science, that I find it difficult to begin to tell of what it has done for my little son and myself during the last six years. We have seen fever, measles, croup, etc., quickly disappear under Christian Science treatment.
One day a door suddenly slammed and caught my little boy's hand. His fingers were firmly held, and he could not get them out until I opened the door. He cried at first, and I at once took him to his room. I wrapped his hand in a handkerchief, and together we repeated the scientific statement of being from our text-book (Science and Health, p. 468). Harmony was soon restored, and we were able to go downstairs. About an hour and a half afterward his nurse put him to bed, not knowing what had happened. When I told her later, she said she had scrubbed his fingers in his bath, and he never mentioned that they had been hurt. The next day there was only the skin broken on one finger to show that anything had happened.
At the beginning of 1910 I did not seem able to overcome for myself what, speaking from former experience, looked like a bad attack of cold. I asked a Christian Science friend here to give me treatment, and I was quickly well, being able to do my usual work all the time. At the same time my friend helped me to get rid of a fear of croup which I was holding over my son.
Above all the physical healing is the spiritual quickening which one gets in Christian Science. At a time of great trouble, when everything seemed very dark, the small understanding of Truth which I have gained gave me "beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness." It is my one wish now to be able to help others and to show forth my gratitude in my life. I feel that I could join with Mary in her hymn of praise, "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. . . . For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name." My feelings to Mrs. Eddy are of the deepest love and reverence.
It is my privilege to belong to the Christian Science society here. As a body we have much to be grateful for, as we have had many manifestations of divine Love. We are endeavoring to express our loyalty by following implicity the Manual of The Mother Church in all our work.
