It is now more than eight years since I received my first treatment in Christian Science. The third day after confinement blood-poisoning set in; I had a very severe chill lasting more than two hours, and from that time a terrible fever, with all the agony which accompanies this disease. After three weeks' treatment by a physician who at first came daily, then twice a day, and later even four times a day as I steadily grew worse, I had a second chill that all in attendance declared to be the death-knell for me.
Another physician was called, and after a consultation they reported to my husband that there was not a shadow of a chance for my recovery, and that I would not last until morning. This was in the afternoon, and after their sentence had been pronounced my case was given to a Christian Science practitioner. By midnight those in attendance could see that there was a slight change for the better, and from that time my improvement was steady and sure. I received just four weeks' treatment, and at the end of the fifth week I was able to take care of the baby and my little boy two and half years old. Besides the frequent visits of the physician, I required two nurses part of the time, so the expense under materia medica was very great.
Since this healing in Christian Science my health is much better than it had ever been before, as up to that time I had never been very well, suffering greatly from headaches, backaches, and a weak stomach. Many times I was on a bed of pain with what the attending physician called bilious colic. Now all is changed, as I have been healed of all these ailments through Christian Science and can in a degree realize what the Psalmist meant when he said, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." I have seen croup yield quickly to Christian Science treatment, and many other ills overcome with this truth.
