As it is often said that Christian Science is all right for...

As it is often said that Christian Science is all right for people who have only some slight ailment. I will tell of my first experience with this healing truth. When I was about nine years of age I had scarlet fever in its very worst form. I was left in a very bad condition; my whole system seemed to be diseased. Among other things I had kidney and heart trouble, and constipation, but that which I counted the worst was trouble with my head. I was so deaf at times that one would have to stand very near and shout, or I could not hear what was said. I suffered almost constantly. I was always considered delicate and could never do the things I wished to do, and about one half the time I was not able to attend school on account of illness of some kind. One specialist who examined me said he might save my left ear but that the drum of the right was perforated. This examination hurt and frightened me so badly that I told my mother if I had to be deaf the rest of my life I should never submit to another.

We returned home and after a time Christian Science was brought to our notice. I had treatment, and gradually the ailments left me, all except the trouble with my head, which continued in the same old way until, towards the last, I suffered so that I could neither sleep nor eat. One night I could not endure the suffering, so in the dead of night my father walked to where a practitioner was, as the cars had stopped running at that hour. I continued to rave for a time, but I knew when the treatment commenced, for all the pain stopped instantly and I said, "I am healed,"—and so I was, thank God! As I had suffered for about ten years, I sometimes doubted, and I used to go out and stand exposed to the cold winds to see if I was really healed. I had always been very sensitive to the cold and always had to muffle up my head. It was very wonderful to me that I could endure the cold with no ill effects. The proof was thoroughly convincing that I was healed, and the trouble has never returned in these ten years.

I have great cause to be thankful, first of all to God, the giver of all good; and to Mrs. Eddy, who is the highest representative of good in these days. I have tested Christian Science in many ways, both for myself and others, since then, and have found that it always did more than I had dared to expect. I desire to live the life of a Christian Scientist in the truest sense. I might tell of many ills that have been destroyed by Christian Science, but I will only add that now I hear perfectly every word that is spoken. At the different Christian Science lectures which I have attended, I have very often sat at the back of the room and could hear when others complained that they could not.—Mrs. Effie McGrew, Bellingham, Wash.
