I am a young man; I seemed old, before coming into...
I am a young man; I seemed old, before coming into Christian Science six months ago,—old through the belief that God caused suffering and that I must continue to be deprived of health and happiness, even deprived of a good God, until I had passed through the experience called death. For three years I suffered so much with stomach trouble that I became despondent and wished to die. No relief could I find in materia medica, so I turned to Christian Science and found God,—a good, all-loving God,—and in two weeks I was healed. This healing swept away all thoughts of sin and sickness, and I began to take only what is pure and good into my consciousness, and experienced something of the glory prepared for those who love God.
Through the kindness of a neighbor I was led to Christian Science, and learned of the allness of God and the nothingness of sin and sickness. I was told to take everything to God, that nothing was too insignificant to ask guidance for, and gradually my disposition changed. Through the study of our text-book, I found unselfishness and kindness to be a joy, and that by keeping thought pure,—not allowing sinful or diseased thoughts to enter my consciousness,—by knowing and declaring God's allness and the unreality of sin and sickness, I could control my body harmoniously. I have come to realize that to receive spiritual blessings I must give in proportion as I receive, and that real happiness consists in working for God. I thank God for the blessings I have received in Christian Science. Words cannot express my gratitude to our Leader. It is only by steadfast endeavor to live the truth that I can ever express my appreciation of her.
