Over a year ago I had a very helpful demonstration in Christian Science. One afternoon, while talking with a friend, I suddenly felt something like a sharp needle piercing my upper lip. Two hours afterwards my daughter asked me if I knew that my lip was swollen. I gave it no thought, however, until the following morning, when my face was badly swollen and very painful. By the next morning the other side was in the same condition, and the swellilng continued to spread until my face, head, and neck were affected. The pain was so intense that I could not keep my thought above it, or only a few minutes at a time. I earnestly longed and prayed to know the truth that maked free, and I studied the Bible and Science and Health each day. The fourth day I took the Quarterly also, but decided to rest before reading. As soon as my head touched the pillow such intense pain surged through my whole body that I was obliged to rise and walk. Instantly the thought of obedience came to me, and I saw that if error were given more power I should surely pass out. I then took the books and read the Lesson-Sermon for the following Sunday, the subject being "Mind." It took about two hours to study it through, as I was obliged to stop frequently to wipe the water that dropped from my face and eyes.
When I had finished the Lesson I was in a new world apparently, the pain had gone and I was healed! I had awakened out of a terrible dream. I had seen and heard and found the truth.—a heritage long sought.—which proves a beacon-light to all my work in Christian Science.
I was soon hungry, and ate for the first time in four days. The skin came off my face and head, and new skin replaced it without a scar. Here I learned how great blessings are being sent out through the Christian Science periodicals, which hold the torch of Truth above the seeming mountains of error that the world may see and understand the absolute nothingness of evil.—Miriam R. Foss, Chicago, Ill.
