Through the knowledge of Christian Science gained by...
Through the knowledge of Christian Science gained by reading the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I was enabled to overcome all the ill effects I used to suffer from poison-ivy. Four years ago, after a picnic in the woods, evidence of ivy poisoning appeared between several fingers on either hand. Knowing in Science that God creates and governs the universe through the law of Love, I found that it must be only the fear of mortals that produced all those ill effects. I overcome all fear, knowing that "Perfect love casteth out fear," and the blisters scaled off instead of spreading. The next two years, while on my vacation, I had occasion to walk through poison-ivy every day while bathing. Many persons warned me to look out for it, but I denied all belief that it had power to poison me; and I knew that the truth would protect me. I was not affected by the ivy at all and never have been since. Christian Science also healed one of my fingers, which was fractured in the last joint, crushed beyond semblance of a finger, by two bowling balls. I tried to treat it alone, but what a young medical student friend called "infected flesh" set in, and I had to ask for help from a practitioner. In a few treatments the diseased condition disappeared and the finger healed entirely. A new nail formed where the old one was torn out. An idea of how perfectly it was healed can be gained by knowing that now I use it in playing the piano as well as ever, the teaching of the piano being my profession. Christian Science also aids me each day in my work and I am very thankful for what knowledge I have of it, and will strive to know more and live it always.—R. C. Barker, Oak Park, Ill.
