Man Victorious
Tempestuous
wind was bleak and cold
As he sped with icy breath,
And sought frail man to pierce and hold
Against the gate of death—
With rheum, and ache, and shivering sigh,
To whelm his troubled breath.
But man was stayed and fortified
By worthy guests that day;
For Love was there, and, side by
In ceaseless interplay
Of lofty thought, sat Faith and Hope,
That tread the narrow way.
Wind roars, and howls, and whirls along,
And now he claims his prey!
But lo! a burst of heavenly song,
A light of higher day,
And man hath drawn the sting of death,
For Soul knows not decay.
The cause of every fact is an essential part of that fact, and determines its ruling characteristics. What is a fact, but the effort of a cause seeking to create or influence the future?" —Mazzini.
