Twelve years ago the name of the "evil spirit" that beset me was "legion," but with a few treatments in Christian Science I was permanently healed of several physical troubles, and given the hope, courage, and understanding that I could be every whit whole in just so far as I learned to acknowledge only the reality of Good in my daily life. My consciousness was changed from a sense of gloom, despondency, and uselessness, to a knowing that all good is mine, and that as the child of God, He has work for me. This was soon proved by my being able to sow the seed of Truth and thus interest enough people to begin the study of the Bible Lessons.

This little band was soon increased by three or four other Scientists, and thus the foundation of our present First Church was laid. How little we know in what unexpected ways God will use us if we but stand ever ready to serve Him.

I have been much impressed with the thought that the home atmosphere should be one of healing, and within the past year three people who have been employed in my home have testified to better health, although no "treatments" were given.

Three years ago my father visited me. At that time he was using a stomach pump whenever he became so hungry that he was unable to resist eating solid food. He used the pump but twice after entering my house, and within two months was eating everything he liked, and said he was free from pain for the first time in twenty years. For several weeks my mother's fear was so great that as I would be helping him at table, she would take hold of my arm to restrain me, saying, "Child, if you had seen him suffer as I have you would not tempt him." I saw him two years later and he was still eating what was set before him and giving God the glory.

While visiting in a home where several young ladies were boarding, one was healed of heart and stomach trouble, and from sorrow, by the spoken world. The change was so pronounced in her physical appearance and in her manner that all noticed it. Another spoke one day of a felon on her finger, saying she had just come from the doctor's office and he told her to come in in the morning and have it lanced. The next morning there was nothing to lance.

These are the experiences of all earnest Christian Science workers and they show the activity of Truth and that it will be manifested to the unresisting thought.

As Scientists we have often to light the candle, sweep the house, and look for the piece of silver (Luke, 15:8); but if the lamp is really lighted, if thought is elevated by understanding God's omnipotence and omnipresence—the silver, yea, the pure gold of divine Love will be found, and we shall become conscious of health, happiness, and success.—L. When I first heard of Christian Science, seven years ago, I supposed that it was spiritualism under a new name. In the little Texas town where we then lived there were two or three Christian Scientists who met at the home of one of their number to read the Lesson-Sermon. Meeting one of them one day, I asked if unbelievers could come to their meetings. She said that they could if they wanted to. I went, expecting them to do something that I could laugh at when telling my friends about it. How surprised I was to find out that they didn't do anything but read the Bible and another book which they called Science and Health. I still thought it all foolishness, but resolved to go to their meetings until I found out all they believed. I continued to go until I began to understand a little of what they knew, not what they believed; and instead of spending my time telling others what a silly thing Christian Science is, I am now trying to find words to tell what a great and wonderful thing it is. I have been healed of so-called incurable spinal disease of ten years' standing by studying the Bible and Science and Health. Science and Health has been my only teacher, and I wish to send my thanks to our dear Leader.

There are no other Scientists near where we now live, but I have the Quarterly and study the lessons by myself. I have five small children and Christian Science is invaluable to me in controlling them, and in overcoming their common ills. They often help themselves and each other to destroy their little hurts and fears.
