Open the Door

All are familiar with Holman Hunt's great picture lesson, "The Light of the World." Jesus with saintly figure and love-lit face stands at the door and knocks The door is overgrown with ivy, it has long been closed, —and the latch-string? No half-hospitable "Come!" will admit the Master, for the latch-string is indrawn, and he who would entertain the stranger must rise ad open to make him welcome.

Are we yearning for the truth? longing for the entrance of Love into our lives, while we sit with the door of consciousness closed, and indifferently call, "Come!" forgetting that we must arise, lift the latch, and open the way for "Light" to enter.

Our earnestness is measured by our activity, mere protestations of love are but "sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal." Our faith in the Science of Christ is a demonstrable faith, "We are what we do."
