Out of a heart filled with gratitude to God, to Mrs. Eddy the Discoverer of this great truth, and to the one who advised me to try Christian Science, I wish to express my thankfulness for what it has done for me.
About sixteen years ago I had spinal meningitis, which left my nervous system in such a wrecked condition, that I was only able to be about a part of the time and could eat only the lightest of food, and very little of that. In February, 1902, I was compelled to go to bed and remain there about four months. Three of our best physicians pronounced my disease cancer of the bowels, in its worst form, and of a very rapid growth.
A very dear friend came to me in September of the same year and asked me to try Christian Science. I felt I was grasping at a straw in taking it up, but my physicians and friends were satisfied for me to try anything if it would prolong my life.
On the 16th of September, 1902. I took my first treatment. When the practitioner came to see me the doctor was in the house and I was under the influence of chloroform, but he was willing to turn my case over to Christian Science. As I was unconscious, I did not see the practitioner that day, and my friends thought I would not live to see her the next day; but she gave me absent treatment, and I was relieved of the awful pain in about two hours. Up to this time I had been taking one of the most powerful opiates, three times a day, the pain being so severe. After the third treatment I had no more severe pain, and on September 20, five days after I first took treatment, I walked ten squares and did not feel any bad effects from it.
On the eighth day the cancer came away perceptibly. After this I gained very rapidly, and could eat anything I wished. I am in perfect health now, which I had not been for twenty years. On November 18 I went back to my position as clerk in a store, and during the holiday trade I can safely say I worked about sixteen hours a day, most of the time on my feet, and have lost only one day since, which was from the grip, and this was overcome in twenty-four hours.
I cannot say too much for Christian Science and am trying to do what good I can and tell others about what the Great Physician has done and is willing to do for all who will accept the truth.—E. P., Pittsburg, Pa.
