I want to tell of some helpful demonstrations for the little ones.
When my oldest child was about three years old she was playing with the sewing machine. I was out of the room, and heard her cry. On going to her I found that her middle finger was fast, the needle having passed straight through at the base of the nail. I had to turn the wheel quite hard to get it out. I took the little one in my arms, and after a few thoughtful moments I said, "Baby, say your little prayer." She repeated it and soon stopped crying, saying, "My finger does not hurt now," and within five minutes she was drumming on the organ with the same hand. It never troubled her after, there was just the mark on either side where the needle had gone through.
One night a case of croup seemed very severe and I trembled with fear. I began reading aloud from Science and Health to the child, and in two hours she was perfectly free from the ailment, was wide awake, and wanted me to play marbles with her. I amused her for a time. We went to bed with a calm and blessed peace that the world cannot know. The old hymn we used to sing has so much meaning now, "O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer." May God bless our Leader and help us to do our part, and to follow on as faithfully as she does.
