When I at last decided to try Christian Science, I was completely discouraged. We had tried everything with only slight temporary improvement. When thirteen years of age, I was taken with paralysis one night and the next morning was unable to turn myself over in bed or to move my limbs.
At that time we were living where we could get no medical assistance. For nine weeks I was not able to be moved. After some time, however, I was brought to Spokane for treatment. The doctors gave me no hope from the first; they said I would never stand on my feet again. Shortly after coming to Spokane we heard of Christian Science; but, like many others, were unwilling to give it a trial until all else had failed. We tried first one thing, then another, until we had tried everything.
At a sanitarium they had a brace made of steel and leather which I was to wear at least three or four years, perhaps a lifetime, for curvature of the spine. After six months at the sanitarium I went to a magnetic healer's and was there nearly three months. When I left there I could move about the house on crutches, but was very nervous; if any one in the room spoke when I was not expecting it, I would start as if struck.
