Our Saviour

Christ Truth, the spiritual idea of being, is Emanuel, "God with us," which saves from sin, disease, and death. Jesus demonstrated this truth of being, brought it to bear on every phase of human life. The human belief of self, in all its sinful, discordant, and dying sense of existence, with its pride of power and possession, its pious self-complacency and self-love, he discarded, destroyed.

He exposed the emptiness and falsity of all formal fashion of worship by bringing out the great necessity of living in the likeness of God. The error of belief (the theory of man as God's opposite rather than His likeness) seeks to slay this Christ idea, this vitalizing thought of man's indissoluble unity with God, to deny its reality and power, deride its works, and make those who hunger for its bread of life, afraid to accept it. Finally, when it thinks it may. it seeks to remove the undivided garment (the oneness with God) and don the robe of earthly power, and then derisively say, "Physician, heal thyself."

Jesus drank this cup of human belief to the dregs and seemingly paid the full penalty. Yet even in the hour of seeming failure came a renewal of that consciousness of God's unfailing love as the only law; and when error's triumph seemed complete, its nothingness was proved by the overthrow of every one of its claims.
