I feel that I should like to repledge my fealty to Mrs. Eddy...

I feel that I should like to repledge my fealty to Mrs. Eddy because of certain recent experiences which have forced in upon my reluctant thought the strength and beauty of the daily use of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and the utter folly of attempting to explain by any human reason its influence for good.

All strong things are simple, some great writer has said; and the simplicity of Science and Health to the obedient thought, is the light that has saved many a storm-tossed ship from the rocks that lie hidden under the shining waters, By obedience I mean obedience to the book Science and Health.

Men, as I find them in the shops and schools and in the courts, are sick of theories. The glistening serpent of human reason, as it winds its way amid human suffering, offers the beauty of its shining scales as an explanation of the necessity for suffering. This view is ever ready with excuse and explanation to temporize with error and find reason for its being, but we find a sword in the hand of the author of Science and Health, not to point out the possible good in the many crawling forms of mortal mind, but to destroy them.
