Burdened with ill health and a number of equally discordant conditions, I found myself quite in the grasp of despair at a time in life when health and strength were most necessary to enable me to supply the means to support those dependent on me.
This state of mind brought to the surface many perplexing thoughts as to God, the universe, and the service, purpose, and destiny of the individual I called "self." At about this time, a little over five years ago, a good friend loaned to one of the members of our family a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which soon afterward came to my notice.
Of Christian Science I had heard little or nothing, so the usual struggles with preconceived prejudices were not part of my experience, therefore I proceeded to study the book most industriously and became strangely interested before the first chapter was finished, and by the time I had read the book through once, the questions mentioned were more reasonably answered than I had ever dreamed possible.
