I have been reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," for about nine years. I was healed two years before of effects of an accident in the timber near Custer City, S. Dak. While felling a tree, some lodged timber fell, one tree falling on me and crushing me down until my forehead was pressed on the ground by the side of my right foot, my left limb being doubled under me.

This is the position I was told I was in; as the doctor put it, shut up like a jack-knife.

I knew nothing of the accident until the next day. I suffered much for more than two years from internal injuries, my whole right side being affected, the right side of my neck and head being partially paralyzed all that time, and my left knee was in bad shape. All this time I was seeing and hearing of the wonderful works of Christian Science healing. I finally took treatment. I reported every evening—no change—until the fourth day, when the pain shifted to my left side; the Scientist said, "I am glad to see something move. To-morrow it may be nowhere; for it is nothing at most." The fifth day I realized that I was healed. Two weeks later a team ran away with me and used me up badly. A surgeon was called. I was next moved on a bed to other quarters to a friend's room where he and his mother and sisters kindly waited upon me. The next evening I called for the Scientist to come to my room. He came knowing the opposition all about me. He said, "If you think you want a doctor, call a doctor." I answered, "No; I want you to treat me." I was suffering terribly from bruises, and my spine was so sprained that I could not turn or lift my head. He treated me and I went to sleep, I think for the first time since I was hurt. When he closed the door in leaving I awoke. I was free from pain. I raised to a sitting position, laid down, raised again, turned over, and went to sleep. Next morning I was suffering as before.

The suggestion came to me that the Scientist was alarmed and feared he could not heal me, and for that reason he had mentioned the doctor. I called for the doctor and sent the Scientist word.

The doctor was unable to relieve me. I was anxious to get home fifteen miles in the country. I again called for treatment of the Scientist. In three days I was out, and in a short time was able to do light work again. I afterwards called for treatment, every time with the same results. A year or more passed, when a Bible class was started four miles from my home. I attended and soon procured a copy of Science and Health, and the benefits have been so numerous and constant ever since that I would have to write a book to tell them. I have never written a word before for the Journal or Sentinel. I have attempted several times to write briefly of this first experience, but made the same failure that I have made this time, and thought the Sentinel would not have space for so much, so did not send it. I might add here that all is not smooth sailing, and while I was healed of the results of the accidents, I was partially healed of catarrh contracted twelve years before, and lameness from scarlet fever when one year old. I realize great help from the little understanding I have. I had not had my Science and Health more than three months before a disease disappeared which had given me much trouble for fifteen years.—W. D. Arner, Delta, Col.
