Healing Work in Mexico
AN event of special significance to the work here occurred September 1 in the birth of a child under Christian Science treatment. The mother, Senora Fragosa, is a woman forty-five years of age. Eleven years have transpired since the birth of her last child, and she had always suffered considerably in former experiences. The material conditions led the two doctors who had been consulted by the family, to declare beforehand that the mother would suffer severely, and might not be able to get through. The daughter, Angela, a young woman, had been helped in Christian Science, and for nearly a year has attended the services. She has had success in treating in other directions, and felt so confident of her ability to help her mother that the family did not call the physicians. Every condition was successfully met by this young woman. The preliminary symptoms appeared at five o'clock in the morning and at eight, the little one was born, and the neighbors called it a miracle till Angela explained that it was but divinely natural to demonstrate over every pain and danger. The mother was able to attend to her household duties in a few days, and the family, lost in enjoyable wonder at this manifestation of God's power, are very happy that it could be effected through one of their own country-women. Angela said she had no fear from the first, and even when the case seemed very dangerous, she was enabled to hold such a thought of harmony and peace as to banish pain and anxiety.
Five days later, in another part of the city, another child was born under Christian Science treatment. In this case the mother Senora Paz, practically suffered no pain. No physician was called only the midwife, as in the other case. A sister to the mother of the child had learned somewhat of Christian Science two years ago, but had dropped the subject till two months ago when she returned and was healed of some troubles of her own. This young woman treated her sister, and although at times the case seemed desperate, both clung to what they knew of Christian Science. Every condition was met fearlessly and therefore successfully. Neither child has had any set-back, and both are healthy and strong.
A few days ago a little Indian baby was saved from death by Christian Science. It was only seven months old. The parents, Garcia by name, live in the suburbs of the city of Toluca. They brought the baby to this city, having seen the healing of a friend of the family. The day before they left Toluca the baby had suddenly taken sick, they said in consequence of mal de ojo, the evil eye, a superstition quite common among the Indians of Mexico. The child was carried to our office and treated. When brought, it was in a comatose condition, and had been so for three days, during which it had not taken any nourishment. It lay limp and apparently lifeless in the lap of the mother. In half an hour, the mesmerism was broken, and the handsome little fellow smiled up into our faces. He was entirely well. The family have returned to their Toluca home carrying with them a most grateful sense of the power of the Christ-truth, so marvelously revealed to the world by our Leader.
