Prejudice and Fear Overcome
It is about six months since I first received Christian Science treatment through the persuasion of a sister who is a Scientist. She had tried in vain to show me the beautiful and good in Christian Science; but I, being a member of the Presbyterian Church, which I dearly loved and love still, was both prejudiced and afraid of a religion which did not, as I thought, believe in Christ. It was always a mystery why poor, suffering humanity could not be healed in the present age as they were eighteen hundren years ago.
I was in very poor health for more than fourteen years. About nine years ago I broke down completely and gradually grew worse. I tried many good doctors with but little benefit. They claimed I had a floating kidney, also eczema, enlargement of the liver, catarrh of the kidneys, liver, stomach, and bowels, and several kinds of female trouble. About a year ago the physician told my husband that there was no help for me; he said I would never be any better. I was advised by another physician to try change of climate, though he could scarcely hope for relief.
Three different physicians told me the only help for one trouble, a floating kidney, was an operation; but they could not advise it, as I was not strong enough to undergo the operation. My stomach was in such a condition that I could not drink cold water, could not drink anything with meals, which consisted of very light food. I finally became badly bloated and heart trouble set in. My friends became very much alarmed concerning me, and my sister came to take care of me.
