Concord's Old Home Day

Address by Governor Frank W. Rollins

New Hampshire's second celebration of Old Home Week was a success in every respect. Friday, August 17, was Concord's great day, and it was a fitting climax to the week's observances. Addresses were delivered by Governor Frank W. Rollins and United States Senators, William E. Chandler and Jacob H. Gallinger.

Governor Rollins spoke in part as follows :—

We are gathered here to celebrate the second Old Home Week. Last year it was an experiment — this year it is an established fact, an established custom or institution. I need hardly say that it is a matter of deep gratification to me that the idea has met hearty recognition, and that it bids fair to do so much for New Hampshire. We were more than successful last year in calling back to the old hearthstones those who had wandered afar and joined their fortunes to those of other commonwealths. Every town received its quota of returning children with wide-open arms, and I venture to say that these occasions were the happiest and merriest, as well as the saddest, ever celebrated in any of these ancient hamlets since they were hewn and carved out of the primeval forest.
