God's Way the Only Way

When error tries to make us think that discord is real we can know at once that it is not Truth that is influencing us. While sitting at the window one morning reading my lesson from a small book called "Daily Light," I chanced to look out on the street and in doing so, I saw a conductor of an electric car working quite hard to adjust the trolley-pole which is necessary to be in touch with the electric wire to enable the car to run. The minute the pole became detched from the wire the car remained perfectly still. It took quite a little work on the part of the conductor to adjust it so that it was in working order. I thought how like our work in Christian Science.

The moment we allow our own human opinions and beliefs to interfere with God's perfect law, we get off the track and it takes much work to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God and be willing to let "God's will be done." Only by knowing "not my will, but thine, be done" will harmony be the result. To work out our problems correctly we must come under the mighty hand of God and remain there, no matter if the problem is being worked out differently from what our poor, human, finite sense thinks that it should be. God does all things well, and His ways are not man's ways. If each one of us, as a Christian Scientist, is doing his individual work aright, there will be the collective whole, each made perfect through the cross.
