Found Peace and Rest in Christian Science

I was raised by Christian parents. I became a member of the Christian church in early youth, and served God to my highest understanding and ability for forty years, constantly looking forward for peace and rest in the grave or beyond the grave. It seemed somewhat indefinite. All the time, affliction's iron rod was oppressing me more and more, pains were multiplying and strength diminishing, although I read in my Bible that God was my strength, and that He healed all our sicknesses.

When pain seemed more than I could bear, we would call for help in the way of drugs, but now, since the Light of Truth has dawned on my consciousness, I find God's grace sufficient in every time of need. When reading the Bible and trying to understand it in a material way, I found many stumbling-blocks, but with it all I hoped and prayed that God in His wisdom would lead me in the true path.

Believing as I did, that I lived in my body, my belief was very prolific in its fruits. Afflictions of the flesh greatly increased. One sore and painful afflication, called by the doctors salt-rheum, had developed to such and extent that every nail on both my hands was loosened and came off, leaving the new nail in a roughened and ridged condition. Then followed nervous prostration, with severe pains in the head, and finally paralysis of the left arm. One doctor after another was tried, with no permanent relief, till life seemed a burden. I was a great care and worry to my family, being in such a state of mind that I could not sleep without an opiate of some kind.
