Testimonials of Healing
Nearly every Christian Scientist has been confronted with retorts of sceptics, when cases of healings, as related in the Field, have been repeated to them. The retort is substantially the same in every case, and is in effect that patent medicine dealers present similar testimonials of the efficacy of their nostrums.
There is this very important difference: One may take up any of these Field testimonials, and in almost any American city of ten thousand population, find a parallel case among the inhabitants. In nearly all cities of the size indicated are men and women who have been healed through the agency of Christian Science of ailments, ranging from cancer to consumption, indigestion to insanity, and including drunkenness, ill-temper, tobacco appetite, rheumatism, and paralysis.
The real seeker for the truth concerning the efficacy of Christian Science as a means of saving suffering humanity from sickness and sin and their consequences, will investigate so far at least as palpable evidences are afforded by his neighbors or those who live in the same town. Permit me to use my home as an illustration.
