Benefits of Church Membership
Dear Sentinel:—We wish at this time to send to the Field through the Sentinel, that so zealously and lovingly guards our cause, a copy of part of a letter which was read at our last testimony meeting, and which certainly testifies to the benefits arising from church organization, and also the blessing accruing to such as unite with a church, although distant from it. Often has a blessing come to those who have for true love and fidelity to our cause, united with the Mother Church in Boston. Here we have a beautiful testimonial of one who united with our little church, the first organized Christian Science Church in Idaho.
She thus writes: "I will express to you a testimony of the light and truth of Christian Science, as revealed to me on Sunday the 10th [the day she was received into the church.] I arose early with an earnest desire to read and understand. I opened the Bible and commenced reading at the 145th Psalm. Such an uplifting, hallowed influence of divine Love rested upon me, a flood of new light burst forth into my consciousness, and I felt that in that hallowed light and divine understanding, all the world will see and understand that Jesus is the "Root and offspring of David, the bright and morning star." I continued to read; I could not close the Bible; I turned to chapters which hitherto had been obscure, and read with understanding. That effulgent light abode with me all day and I still rejoice in that new revelation of divine Love. When I received your letter, I knew, and received it again, and do acknowledge it a solemn and sacred testimony to the eternal truth, light, and power of Christian Science, and do bear testimony through demonstration that it does perform all it proclaims. I fully realize in the light of my testimony the beautiful interpretation given of Revelation, 21:9, beginning on page 565, of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
