Healed by the Book

Ten or eleven years ago a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." came into the family. At that time I was in good health, was satisfied with self and with the world. I looked into the book out of curiosity, to see what the Christian Scientists believed. Every statement read was questioned and antagonized.

Such a condition of thought shut out the Light. None had been received, apparently, when the volume was returned, without comment, to its owner. As the years went by, this dense ignorance of God began to manifest itself in physical ailments. But I had always wanted the Truth, and was seeking it even then in different orthodox churches, while the way was being prepared by making truthfulness the highest standard of right-doing in the household. Finally, in studying Evolution, my grasp on any certain belief in God, and all the hold that had remained upon creed and dogma, slipped away. It was then that the constant prayer of hungry heart was answered. I had been made ready to receive the Light. Once more Science and Health was placed in my hands. This time I approached the subject of Christian Science in a spirit of humility, eager to know if it really were the Truth after all, and prepared to accept whatever I could apprehend of the Science of Being and its seeming mysteries.

I gave very little thought to the promise of healing, being much more anxious for a solution of the enigma of mortal existence. It did not seem credible that this was the same book I had tried to read before. The pages were now illuminated. I found all that I sought and a great deal more.
