Over and over again I am asked the question, "Why are all the authorized books on Christian Science copyrighted?"

Authorized books are protected by copyright from anything being added to or taken from or any manner of alteration being made in their text, and then being re-issued under the same title with the same author's name on the title-page.

Last year I bought some of Cooper's novels. Upon looking them over I found them rewritten and so changed that there remained nothing of the inimitable "Leather Stocking Tales" but the plot, the title, and the author's name. No one dares to mutilate a book protected by a copyright. Already there are many books claiming to teach Christian Science which are as little like the genuine as the spurious "Leather Stocking Tales" are like the original. When we buy a copyrighted book we know that it has not been tampered with, and that the words of the author are just as he wrote them. This is why all authoritative books are protected by copyright, and why all books written by Mary Baker G. Eddy remain authoritative.
