A Falsehood Refuted

Under the above heading the Washingtion News Letter republishes our correction of the falsehood published in the New York World, and follows it with the following editorial note:—

"The reason why we copy the above from the Sentinel is because in another column, we print the substance of an article taken from the Philadelphia (Pa.) Times, in which the charge is made that Mrs. Eddy was in Philadelphia and was the attendant on Mr. Morgan.

"It will be noted that the above denial does not deny that she was at Philadelphia. We will gladly give the facts when we know them. We call on the Philadelphia Times to make good its statement."

We quoted thus from the World article:—

"Finally he [Morgan] became so bad that Mrs. Eddy came on from Boston and called at the Morgan house. She remained for several days, praying for Morgan's recovery. There was no improvement, however, etc.;" and then added, "It is needless to say the above is absolutely false." This general denial is followed by specific denials, and the whole is so complete a refutation of the entire falsehood that we are surprised at the quibble of the editor of the News Letter.

We now say that the Rev. Mary Baker Eddy was not in Philadelphia at the time mentioned, and further, that for more than ten years she has not been away from her home in Concord, N. H., excepting as she has visited the Mother Church in Boston, and each of these visits was conspicuously mentioned in the newspapers.

We add also that Mrs. Eddy knew no more of the case of Mr. Morgan than did the editor of the News Letter.
