Conflict in Syria spilled over the border into Turkey over the weekend when a firefight between Syrian rebels and troops killed at least one person in the Kilis refugee camp. Turkey called on Syria’s envoy to demand that cross-border incidents like this stop. Turkey has taken in thousands of Syrians fleeing violence, and the UN estimates that more than 42,000 Syrians have left the country in total since the uprising began a year ago.
“To preserve life” discusses how we can reach out to Syria in prayer, recognizing that God’s power arrests violence and that “each individual is the spiritual idea of Life, empowered with intelligence, honesty, strength, and goodness.”
New analysis of census data showed “net zero” US immigration this year, as many Mexican migrant workers return home. The combination of a weak US economy and anti-immigrant sentiment, as well as improved education, higher income levels, and lower fertility rates in Mexico than in decades past, has made life in Mexico more viable for many workers.
