Healing on the day of a big exam
I had a significant healing during my time as a music student at a large university.
At the end of every semester, we had final exams called juries. During the jury, I had to walk onto the auditorium stage alone and play my instrument, the bassoon, for the professors sitting in the audience. They would judge my performance and grade me.

When I woke up the morning of my jury, I could not open my mouth—it was like my jaw was locked. I didn’t know how I was going to play my bassoon.
I didn’t know how I was going to play my bassoon for the exam.
I had grown up attending Christian Science Sunday School, and we often talked about healings that had come about through prayer. So I knew healing was possible, and I turned to prayer.
I thought of a Bible passage I’ve prayed with many times: “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Hebrews 10:35, 36). These verses have always helped me feel peaceful, no matter the situation, because they tell me that I can trust God. This time was no different.
I played as well as I ever had—and passed!
I got dressed for the day but breakfast was out of the question. My exam time was early, so I took my bassoon and went to the music building. I was so peaceful that I didn’t worry about anything as I soaked my reed in water, played one or two notes, went on the stage, and played. I played as well as I ever had—and passed! My jaw was healed, too, and I haven’t faced this problem again.
I’ll always be grateful for that passage in Hebrews. I remember it sometimes when I’m praying in other difficult circumstances, too.
This experience gave me the confidence to move forward in everything I was doing and to continue my practice of Christian Science. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend Christian Science Sunday School and for everything I learned there.
