One candidate's contribution

Election season! As a voter I can’t imagine ever approaching it without the guidance I’ve gained through prayer, from being informed about issues to witnessing a harmonious race and casting a wise vote.
This past summer, however, I experienced what it’s like to be a candidate. Though on a local level, I gained a fresh perspective of the entire process. Plus, I found new appreciation and respect for all those who campaign for office.
Late last year I’d been appointed to fill a ten-month unexpired term for my local city council, a part-time community service-type job. My appointment was based on interviews with seven other candidates. When it came time to announce who was running, it appeared I’d be unopposed. However, one of the candidates who’d interviewed for the job when I did jumped in at the last minute. That surprised me, as he’d indicated he wouldn’t run at all, and yet he was fully ready to launch his campaign with signage and flyers in hand.
