When the election doesn't turn out the way you wanted...

As a former journalist, I follow politics closely. And one election night several years ago, I sat in front of the television, my frustration and indignation rising. The results were not what I had been hoping for.

How could those candidates be winning? How could so many voters be fooled by what I saw as shrewd and manipulative campaigning? Had all that negative advertising paid off? What could have swayed the results?

I was a bundle of negative emotions. Helplessness and even anger welled up inside me. I was overwhelmed by thoughts of what the future might hold for my community, my country, and even the world under the government of the winning party.
