Swine flu — what your prayers can do to help

Lynn Jackson, C.S.B.

Amid reports about swine flu cases and predictions regarding the disease, Lynn says that we can best defend ourselves by turning away from fear and rejecting the idea that we are vulnerable to disease. God doesn’t lead us into fear and panic but delivers us. News reports may present a picture of humanity as material and subject to disease, but prayer can lift our thoughts out of this material view of life and open them to God’s presence in our lives.

Lynn responds to questions from site visitors about media influences, effective prayer if one is already feeling ill, dealing with suggestions that swine flu might return in the fall, and also the need not just to reject swine flu, but any flu. She makes the point that God doesn’t send disease to punish humanity, and that prayer from the heart can help and heal. Speaking of the global nature of this disease, she also offers thoughts on our unity as children of one divine Father, all under His care. She reminds that God doesn’t lead us into fear and panic but delivers us.
