Prayer about AIDS: what you can do to help

Marta Greenwood, C.S.B. and Joseph Kamenju

Humanity’s interconnectedness and God’s infinite love for all of us are two of the messages that come through loud and clear in this chat. As children of one Father-Mother, what affects one, affects all, so—as Marta puts it—there is “inclusive Love for all of us.” Joseph points out that rather than focusing on the disease, “we need to focus on healing and love.”

Using examples from the Bible, they respond to a wide range of questions relating to AIDS, STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases), the role of education in helping to control the spread of AIDS, the influence of fear. They comment on the belief that AIDS is sent as a punishment, on promiscuity, sensuality. Site visitors offer their own experiences of praying about these issues and ask for further guidance on how to achieve healing. The bottom line message asks for compassion toward those with these illnesses and the assurance that no one can ever be separated from God’s love.
