Parenting with the divine Parent

Live audio chat with Ann Kneeland, C.S.

In this chat, Ann begins by quoting the first chapter of Genesis in the Bible which states that God made everything good and since we are all made in the image and likeness of God, then we are good, too. Therefore, our Father-Mother God is the real parent of each of us. And this is the basis for parenting—to know who the real parent is and turn to this true parent constantly for guidance. She also pointed out that Jesus, in a certain sense, parented the people he came into contact with. He helped others be fed, protected, loved, recover from mistakes, and grow spiritually. And we can follow his example.

Ann answers questions like: When you have adult children who are struggling with problems, how do you help without getting caught up in the problem? What can I do if I feel trapped in a family history of abuse? Can the effects of bad parenting and neglect be reversed? How do we overcome extreme selfishness exhibited by a child? What is parenting? Please provide some thoughts about appropriate punishment for children who are disobedient and rebellious. And how can a parent avoid the materialism that is so present in our society today?

Ann answers all these and more with the assurance that God is infinitely powerful and present. And God's love and guidance are always in operation for both the parent and the child.
