"Lack ye any thing?"

Ah , why do we so easily forgetThe cruse of oil, the modicum of mealThat wasted not?

"Pray without ceasing"

I would have said my morning prayer,But scarce had I begun—To save a sister from a fallIn haste I had to run.

The Way to Heaven

There is a road that men may treadWhere one has walked who knew the way,The one who taught us how to pray:Give us this day our daily bread.

"Teach us to pray"

"Teach us to pray," they bade the Lord; and thenHe gave the prayer that meets all needs of men,The prayer of faith, which lifts the heart above,From mortal sense to holy realms of Love.

Understanding

Give me, O Lord, an understanding heart! Not always have I gladly raised this prayer:For I have longed for trifles light as air,For things of earth, of music, or of art,And oftentimes have sought the gift of song,Or eloquence in speech; in ancient loreWould knowledge have, or far-off lands explore,And cities where the mighty numbers throng.

Love's Touch

I like to think that at GethsemaneWhen Jesus healed the high priest's servant's ear,Severed by the impetuous Peter's swordWielded through a mistaken zeal and fear,In that same hour the high priest's servant gainedA vision of the Christ, whose healing powerBanished forever all his hatred, whenLove's hand reached out and touched him in that hour;I like to think that from that moment heBecame a follower of the Christ, and learnedIn sweet humility to live the truthWhich erstwhile he in ignorance had spurned.

As in a manger long ago,In Bethlehem the blest,The infant Saviour of the worldFound humble, homely rest;So to the bosom sad and lornThere comes the pledge of Christmas morn.

The Sheep That Was Found

I stood upon the outskirts of the crowdThat thronged about him in the market place.

I Thank Thee

No Separation

Through human silence comes the voice of God,Dispelling doubt, and compassing aboutWith tender loving every weary heart.

"I shall be satisfied"

"As for me, I will behold thy faceIn righteousness.

Deliverance

About them all the wilderness spread out,The sea before.
