Love's Touch

I like to think that at GethsemaneWhen Jesus healed the high priest's servant's ear,Severed by the impetuous Peter's swordWielded through a mistaken zeal and fear,In that same hour the high priest's servant gainedA vision of the Christ, whose healing powerBanished forever all his hatred, whenLove's hand reached out and touched him in that hour;I like to think that from that moment heBecame a follower of the Christ, and learnedIn sweet humility to live the truthWhich erstwhile he in ignorance had spurned.

Christmas Morn

As in a manger long ago,In Bethlehem the blest,The infant Saviour of the worldFound humble, homely rest;So to the bosom sad and lornThere comes the pledge of Christmas morn.

Deliverance

About them all the wilderness spread out,The sea before.

God is Spirit

Gentle Spirit, this I see—Justice, mercy, dwell with Thee,In Thy presence, From aboveIs our comfort, peace, and love; And Thy tender, loving careComes through daily earnest prayer,Till the vision, pure and bright,Fills our hearts with God's daylight.

Revelation

One misty morn the throes of mortal thoughtEncircled me about as bands of steel,Which tore the very fiber of my soul.

A Prayer

Oh , let not apathy nor willful slothImpede my growth; And may the bulwark of Thy constant ruthUphold my truth.

Service

If I can smile, in patience waitingFor Love divine to show the way;If I can trust, despite the seeming,And honor Him in work and play;If I can hope, and know no doubting; If I can love, and have no fear,Then will my life be filled with service,And all the false will fade awayAs shadows dim before the sunshine, As darkness deep before the day.

Thanksgiving

We thank Thee, Love divine,Not for a special gift or favor rare,But that Thou hearest every childlike prayer,And that Thou givest us each day's supplyFrom out the storehouse of infinity,With lavish hand.
