"The hearing ear"

"Hear me, O God!" how often would I plead;"Answer my prayer, for urgent is need.

Trusting

What if the seas be dark and drear,Our little craft be tossedWith angry winds that conjure fear!Trust Love, and nought is lost.

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

"Who is thine enemy?"*

I CANNOT look to time, to place,to see his face;he is not thereor anywhereoutside the door, outside the inmost privacy of me:for sure as suremy anger builds his height,my pride and hate and frightdefine him, part by part, and while he lives in heart, while looms in mind, there is no peace, no certainty, for he is meand I am he.

The Secret Place

WE have a secret place, Love-lit, serene, and calm,Prepared to meet the heart's deep need;'Tis our guestchamber, lovely, garnished in and outWith holy thought and gentle deed; Here Love's disciples, angel thoughts, abide by dayAnd at the eventide may draw us close to God,That Love the hungry heart may feed.

After the Storm

Oh, Blest Are They!

OH , blest are they who trust in GodThroughout the long dark night;Who feel the morning of His love,E'er they behold its light! And blest are they who wake with Him,And find their faith renewed;Who quench their thirst at living springsLove points along the road;Who do not doubt God's promisesMade new from day to day,But take sweet comfort to their hearts—Oh, calm and blest are they! They wait in quietness and peaceTill God reveals His plan,And strive with patient faith and hopeTo see the perfect man.

Love's Purpose

I Will be still and know that God is here,When trials come, and so present their testsMy thinking to becloud.

Right Desire

May I have courage to refuseThe falsities that would confuse,And wisdom always but to chooseThat which is right.

Christmas Gifts

AGAIN glad Christmastide is here;Again the angels sing.

Nativity

How vibrant were the hills of BethlehemThat Christmas morning when the angels sangOf peace on earth; how roundly echoes rangUntil it seemed the mountains spoke with them! How truly wise those sages who discernedThat gleaming star set in the eastern sky—Who recognized the star of prophecy,And homeward to the Christ their footsteps turned!

"I am the way"

The way of Truth is long, the path is steep; But he who bravely perseveres shall reapThe full reward of courage.
