Poems

New Wine

A night there was, When, doubting and severe, My weary thoughts contained in discontent Escaped In a thin cry; And, like the Psalmist, I trod softly midst the stars and questioned, Where is the place of inspiration, Where is its fountainhead?

Children's Prayer

Loving angels, guard my sleep.

Testing Time

The mountaintop is all alight With morn's bright promise of the day; I stand alone in silent awe Above the clouds of misty gray.

Serenity

Rest, troubled heart.

In Thy Vineyard

WITH joy I lay my burden down; Its weary weight is gone.

Awake! the dream that mortal sense Would make for man is done! Now is the time to rise and know Dreams have no course to run.

The Gift of Love

Into this day that seemed so dark and denseLove's light has shone,Causing the shadows of old fearsTo vanish, one by one.

"Shew me thy ways, O Lord"

Open my eyes that I may seeWhat is Thy loving will for me;That clear before my troubled gazeThy light shall show the ordered waysOf Thy requirements.

Now

There is no past to cause regret or tear, No future fears to which I needs must bow, For day by day the truth unfolds to me That in God's universe there's only now.
I must resolve this doubt, this indecision,That seems to cloud my concept of true being.

True Service

Wake us to see the pillar of Thy fire!Let us not sit, O God, in dotish ease,Lest liberty and courage may expire.

"Thy will be done"

Give me the grace to pray, "Thy will be done,"That, trusting, I may find my love in Thine; That I may place each hope in Thee alone,Nor heed this will of mine.
